What You Need Before You Start

Twixtor produces the best results with footage shot at 60fps or higher. The more source frames your video has, the smoother the synthesized slow motion will look. 120fps or 240fps footage gives you the most cinematic results.
Step-by-Step: How to Install Twixtor Presets
Download the Twixtor preset pack from our Resource Vault. You will receive a .zip file containing multiple .ffx preset files such as "Smooth Twixtor.ffx", "Velocity Twixtor.ffx", and more.
Extract the .zip file. You should now have a folder with individual .ffx files inside it.
Copy all the .ffx files into your After Effects User Presets folder. The default location depends on your operating system:
Windows: C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Adobe\After Effects [version]\User Presets\
Mac: ~/Documents/Adobe/After Effects [version]/User Presets/
Restart Adobe After Effects. Open the Effects & Presets panel (go to Window → Effects & Presets). You will now see your Twixtor presets listed under the "User Presets" section.
How to Apply a Twixtor Preset to Your Footage
Import your video footage into After Effects. Go to File → Import → File and select your video clip. Then drag it onto a new composition in the timeline.
Click on your footage layer in the timeline to select it.
In the Effects & Presets panel, locate your desired preset under User Presets. Double-click the preset (for example, "Smooth Twixtor") to apply it. After Effects will automatically add the Twixtor effect with all the preset's settings to your selected layer.
Hit the Spacebar or press 0 on the numpad to RAM preview your clip. Your footage should now play back in slow motion with the preset's configuration applied.
Which Preset Should You Use?

Twixtor is a processor-heavy effect. When previewing, set your composition resolution to Half or Quarter in the bottom left of the preview window. Only switch to Full resolution when you are ready to do your final render — this will save you a lot of time.
Common Twixtor Problems and How to Fix Them
Ghosting / Smearing Effect
If your slow motion footage has ghosting or blurry trails, it usually means Twixtor is having difficulty tracking motion between frames. Fix this by increasing the "Motion Sensitivity" value in the Twixtor effect controls, or by using higher frame rate source footage.
The Preset Is Not Showing in Effects & Presets
Make sure you placed the .ffx files in the correct User Presets folder and that you fully restarted After Effects (not just refreshed). Also check that the Twixtor plugin itself is installed — the preset requires the plugin to be present to work correctly.
Footage Looks Choppy Instead of Smooth
This usually happens when your source footage is 24fps or 30fps. Twixtor works best with 60fps+ footage. Consider shooting at a higher frame rate if your camera supports it.
